The Stroh Brewery Company is a beer brewery located in Detroit, Michigan….whereas in addition to its own Stroh’s brand….the company produced or bought the rights to several other brands including Goebel….Schaefer….Schlitz….Augsburger….Erlanger….Old Style….Lone Star….Old Milwaukee….Red River and Signature….plus they manufacture Stroh’s Ice Cream. The company was taken over and broken up in 2000, but some of its brands continued to be made by the new owners. The Stroh’s brand is currently owned and marketed by Pabst Brewing Company….except in Canada where the Stroh brands are owned by Sleeman Breweries.
Paine Webber and Company was an American stock brokerageand asset management firm that was acquired by the Swiss bank UBS AG in 2000. The company was founded in 1880 in Boston, Massachusetts, by William Alfred Paine and Wallace G. Webber. Operating with two employees, they leased premises at 48 Congress Street in May 1881. The company was renamed Paine, Webber & Co. when Charles Hamilton Paine became a partner. Members of the Boston Stock Exchange, in 1890 the company acquired a seat on the New York Stock Exchange. Wallace G. Webber retired after the business weathered a major financial crisis that hit the market in 1893.
