Volleyball at the Summer Olympics has been contested as an indoor sport ever since IT was introduced at the 1964 Tokyo Summer Olympics. The history of Olympic volleyball can be traced back to the 1924 Paris Summer Olympics….where volleyball was played as part of an American sports demonstration event. Its addition to the Olympic program, however, was given only after World War II….with the foundation of the FIVD….and of some of the continental confederations. In 1957, a special tournament was held at the 53rd IOC session in Sofia, Bulgaria….to support such request. The competition was a success and the sport was officially introduced in Tokyo. This 1984 L A Games match on Day 10 between Argentina vs South Korea….is proof of how the game has grown in the past 50 years.
