Bone Daddy has been a fan of the game of golf for dang near all of his life….as he liked Texas golfers…..Mysterious Mr. X Miller Barber, Don January, Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Tom Kite, Ben Crenshaw, Charles Coody, et al…..but his and my all time favorite Texas golfer was Lee Buck Trevino….The Merry Mex and SuperMex….for this man could take an over-sized Dr. Pepper bottle…and shoot scratch golf with that bottle….and never use a golf club. Trevino is regarded as one of the greatest players in professional golf history….and the greatest Hispanic golfer of all time.….and that’s why this lil ole Chiweenie has had a secret love affair with that joyful character for a long time…..it just must be the chihuahua side of me. Trevino won six major championships and 29 PGA Tour events over the course of his career. He is one of only four players to twice win the U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship. The only major that eluded him was the Masters Tournament. He is an icon for Mexican Americans, and is often referred to as “The Merry Mex” and “Supermex,” both affectionate nicknames given to him by other golfers. He was inducted to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1981.
