The 1978 World Cup Alpine Skiing Championships were held in Aspen, Colorado between January 29 and February 5…..and televised on ABC’s Wide World of Sports with hosts Jim McKay and Bob Beattie behind the mikes…..with alpine skiing competitions in downhill, special slalom, giant slalom and combined for men and women….as the combined was only a “paper race”.
The 1978 World Cup Championship from Aspen, Colorado men’s downhill finals covered by ABC Sports was won by Austria’s Petre Wirnsberger…..with Switzerland’s Peter Mueller taking 2nd…..and Canada’s David Murray coming in third.
