Auto Racing – 1986 – Indy 500 – Winners Circle With Bobby Rahal & Owner Jim Trueman – A Happy Time

The winner’s circle at the 1986 Indy 500 was truly a joyful place…..as Bobby Rahal pulled out a win by jumping to the lead over Kevin Cogan on a restart after the yellow flag came out with just 2 laps to go…..as Cogan had a commanding lead with only two times around the track to go.

What made this 1986 Indy 500 so special wasn’t just the fact that Rahal pulled a rabbit out of his hat on the restart to win his 1st and only Indy 500…..but the real joy came from the fact that Rahal’s car owner was Jim Trueman of Truesports Racing…..who was suffering from terminal cancer during the race…..and would eventually pass away just 11 days after the victory…..so, the fact is, the joy shared in the winner’s circle at the 1986 Indy 500…..was without question….HEAVENLY JOY.
