Auto Racing – 1987 – Indy 500 – ABC Jim Lampley + Sam Posey + Bobby Unser With The Last 50 Laps

The last 50 laps of the 1987 Indianapolis 500 race was not only very exciting…..but it turned out to be a very historic race…..when Al Unser Sr. would win his 4th Indy 500 to tie A J Foyt  as the only drivers to ever win the great race 4 times…..whereas Rick Mears would win his 3rd Indy in 1988….and tie Foyt and Unser in 1991….when Rocket Rick would win his 4th.

Any way you cut the pie….the last 50 laps of the 1987 Indy 500 was nothing short of sensational…..as leader for the entire race, Mario Andretti, would encounter engine failure with 20 laps to go…..followed by then leader Roberto Guerrero…..who would enter the pits with 14 laps to go….while holding a lap and a half lead over Al Unser Sr…..when “the pit stop from Hell” turned the race into HISTORIC.
