Auto Racing – 1987 – Indy 500 – Al Trautwig Interviews Al Unser Sr In The Winners Circle After Race

Al Unser Sr. didn’t have a sponsor or a car just over a week before the historic 1987 Indy 500….whereas fate would have it….when Danny Ongais, driver for Roger Penske Racing would crash into the wall during practice runs less than a week before the start of the race…..which would cause Penske to sign Al Unser Sr. to drive one of his car’s that was on display in a shopping mall in the Midwest, to be taken out of dry storage and brought up to speed…..thus allowing Unser into the race…..which landed him in the winner’s circle with the wreath around his neck…..after race leader Mario Andretti’s car would have engine failure with 20 laps to go in the race…..which was followed by the new leader, Roberto Guerrero, to experience “a pit stop from Hell”…..when his car would stall while leaving the pits….as it allowed Al Unser Sr. to take the lead after being one and a half laps down to Guerrero when he made his last pit stop….when Unser Sr. would go one to win his 4th Indy 500 on a very historic day in Indy 500 auto racing…..thus being in this interview seen herewith in Al Trautwig’s interview…..as once again…..fate and destiny provide more twists and turns than could ever have been imagined.
