Auto Racing – 1987 – Indy 500 – Driver Tom Sneva Hits The Wall And Ends His Day Of Racing At Indy

Tom Sneva is a retired American race car driver….who was the winner of the Indianapolis 500 in 1983….. while primarily racing in Indy cars throughout his career….whereas Sneva’s win at Indianapolis followed several runner-up finishes…..and his fair share of notable crashes….as seen in this video herewith. 

Sneva was nicknamed “The Gas Man”…..who was an outstanding qualifier…..while winning the pole position at Indy on three occasions in 1977, 1978 and 1984…..plus, he was also the fastest qualifier on a fourth occasion in 1981….but because of qualifying rules he did not start the race from the pole position.

Sneva won two consecutive USAC National Championships for Indy cars in 1977 and 1978….and was named to the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2005.
