Colombian race car driver Roberto Guerrero was in serious contention for the 1987 Indy 500…..and probably should have won the race…..of which he did finish 2nd….and only 4.5 seconds behind Al Unser Sr……who won the race for his history making 4th time…..as he tied A. J. Foyt for an Indy record that still stands today….for nobody has won The Greatest Spectacle In Racing more often….albeit Rick Mears tied these two with four in 1991.
Anyway, back to Guerrero…..if it had not been for losing time when the nose cone of his car….as seen in this video herewith….and then the “Pit stop from Hell” with 14 laps to go (that’s another story / video already posted)….Roberto Guerrero would have run away with the 1987 Indy 500.
