Auto Racing – 1987 – Indy 500 – Jerry Gappens Interviews Driver Rick Mears After Engine Failure

Rapid Rick Mears is one of our favorite Indy Car driver…..cuz we like to call him Pole Sitter Rick…..as he seemed to own the pole position at the Indy 500…..where he sat on the pole a record 6 times in his 12 starts at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.  In the 1987 Indy 500….Rapid Rick along with fellow Roger Penske car drivers Danny Sullivan and Rick Ongais….were all out of the race along with their cars….with one from a crash (Ongais)….and two as a result of engine failure….and then along came Al Unser Sr….to drive a Penske car that was in dry storage on display at a shopping mall….and Penske’s 4th car won the 1987 Indy 500.
