Thomas “Tommy” Hearns (born October 18, 1958) is an American former professional boxer….nicknamed the “Motor City Cobra” and more famously “The Hitman”….for he was known as a devastating puncher with a serious knockout punch. Hearns was tall and slender….a build which allowed him to move up over fifty pounds in his career….becoming the first boxer in history to win world titles in four weight divisions….welterweight, light middleweight, middleweight, and light heavyweight. By later winning a super middleweight title…he also became the first to win five world titles in five weight divisions. Hitman was named Fighter of the Year by The Ring magazine in 1980 and 1984….the latter following his one-punch knockout of Roberto Durán. Hearns opponent in this fight was the fighting Marine Jeff McCracken….who gave a good go in this fight.
