Boxing – 10 rnd Welterweight Bout – Wilfred Benitez VS Irish Johnny Turner

DOG COMMENTARY:

This welterweight fight between Irish Johnny Turner and Wilfred Benitez is a fight worthy of watching….for this bout features one of the truly great fighters during the golden age of boxing from 1964 – 1995 in Benitez….and a really good club fighter in Irish Johnny.

Wilfred Benítez is a Puerto Rican former professional boxer and the youngest world champion in the sport’s history….after earning his first of three career world titles in separate weight divisions at the age of seventeen…..who is best remembered as a skilled and aggressive fighter with exceptional defensive abilities. Benitez won each of his world titles from some outstanding boxers….the WBA world light welterweight championship from Antonio Cervantez….the WBC world welterweight title from Carlos Palomino…..and the WBC world light middleweight title from Maurice Hope……while throughout his career he took on some of the super boxers of the era in Thomas Hearns, Sugar Ray Leonard and Roberto Duran…..plus other greats of the time like Carlos Santos, Mustafa Hamsho and Matthew Hilton….meaning simply that he fought every major boxer who fought during his career. Benitez was Inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1996….and is still considered today among the best Puerto Rican boxers of all time….sharing the honor with Félix Trinidad, Wilfredo Gómez, Carlos Ortiz, Héctor Camacho, and Miguel Cotto.

Irish Johnny Turner was a really good club fighter out of Brooklyn, NY…..who comprised a career record of 42 wins 6 losses and 2 draws with 32 KO’s….who gave Benitez a really good fight as seen in this video below.
