Boxing – 1980 – 12 Rnd WBC Featherweight Title – Salvador Sanchez Vs Ruben Castillo – Final Round

DOG COMMENTARY:

The beautiful thing about The Golden Age of Boxing from 1964 – 1995 wasn’t just the incredible boxing legends that graced the ring in dang near every weight division fought professionally….but also the unbelievably awesome boxing broadcasters of the era…..Keith Jackson, Chris Schenkel, Marv Albert and Dr. Ferdie Pacheco, Tim Ryan and Gil Clancy, Jim Lampley and Al Bernstein, Don Cheverie, Don Dunphy, et al…..but none stood out behind the mike at a boxing spectacle during this wonderful time of boxing history…..than the one and only Howard Cosell.

This 1980 WBC World Featherweight Title Fight between Ruben Castillo (47 – 1) vs. Champion Salvador Sanchez (35 – 1)…..which took place at on April 12, 1980 at the Civic Auditorium in Tuscan, Arizona….as the fight is an absolute war that is thoroughly enjoyed by all boxing fans….cuz they get to see one of the true legendary featherweight boxers from The Golden Age of Boxing…..take on an outstanding fighter in Ruben Castillo….in a classic battle that goes the distance…..which not a lot of fighters did against Sanchez.

Salvador Sanchez is considered in the ranks of the best featherweights of all time…..and that was accomplished when he died in an auto accident at the young age of 22 years old….for we at ImaSportsphile believe had he been able to fight into even his mid-30’s….he would have proved himself better that other great featherweights like Kid Chocolate, Abe Attell, Sandy Sadler, Henry Armstrong, Johnny Dundee and Willie Pep.
