Boxing – 1980 – 15 Rnd WBC Featherweight Title Fight – Ruben Castillo Vs Salvador Sanchez

DOG ASIDE:

We have often talked about how much we enjoyed watching Salvador Sanchez in the ring….as we consider him to have been the most talented Mexican boxer ever.  Sánchez started his professional career at the age of 16….and as a teenager (after a brief amateur career consisting of reportedly 4 amateur bouts) he started piling up wins against tough Mexican opposition….when his first fight of note came in his 19th professional fight against the Mexican bantamweight champion Antonio Becerra…..who proved too experienced for the young Sánchez….as the bout ended in a split decision defeat for Sánchez….which would be his only blemish in his young, short but brilliant career…..which would end suddenly in a high-speed car crash when he was just 22 years old.

At the time of Salvador Sanchez’ tragic death….he had compiled a career record of 44 – 1….and was the reigning WBC Featherweight Champion of the world….who had defended his title 9 times against all the best featherweights around….including Danny Lopez (2 times), Juan LaPorte, Pat Cowdell, Wilfredo Gomez, Roberto Castanon, Nicky Perez, Jorge Garcia, Azumah Nelson and Ruben Castillo….as seen in this video herewith.  Therefore, we consider that any time a boxing fan gets to watch a Salvador Sanchez fight….they are going to be more than entertained….cuz had this kid lived….he would have most certainly become a boxing legend from the golden age of boxing (1964 – 1995).
