Michael Jinx Spinks was the undisputed light heavyweight champions…..and basically had beaten every top light heavyweight or cruiserweight boxer in the world…..so, it was time to move up to the heavyweight division….and what better way to do that than schedule a fight with WBC heavyweight champion and undefeated at 48 – 0 Larry The Easton Assassin Holmes….but to do so, he had to implement and participate in some rather unconventional training programs to transform his light heavyweight body into a contenting heavyweight’s body…..and this video herewith gives you an inside look at what that entailed.
In 1985, Spinks beat both David Sears and Jim McDonald by knockout during light heavyweight title defenses before challenging Larry Holmes for the IBF and lineal heavyweight championship. Holmes was trying to tie Rocky Marciano’s record of 49-0 as the heavyweight champion…..but it was Spinks who made history that night….by winning a highly controversial and narrow fifteen-round unanimous decision and becoming the first ever world light-heavyweight champion to win the world heavyweight title….to which we at ImaSportsphile have always stated….and continue to state…..that EVERY challenger for a world title can ONLY take the title by KO, TKO or significantly disfiguring the Champ’s face…..which Jinx did not do…..however, Spinks did transforms his light heavyweight body to make it through 15 rounds with the Champ…..and this video shows how he did so.
