The history of the Marine Corps began when two battalions of Continental Marines were formed on 10 November 1775 in Philadelphia as a service branch of infantry troops capable of fighting both at sea and on shore. In the Pacific theater of World War II the Corps took the lead in a massive campaign of amphibious warfare….advancing from island to island. As of 2018, the USMC has around 200,000 active members and some 49,000 reserve Marines. It is the smallest U.S. military service within the DoD…..but that would be the only place the Marine Corp falls short….for regardless of where the fight…..the Marines are typically first to fight….be the soldier a member of the band or not….they all know how to fight.
A military band is a group of personnel that performs musical duties for military functions, usually for the armed forces of the Army….Navy….Air Force….and Marines.. A typical military band consists mostly of wind and percussion instruments. The conductor of a band commonly bears the title of Bandmaster or Director of Music. Ottoman military bands are thought to be the oldest variety of military marching bands in the world, dating from the 13th century.
