Evander Holyfield is one of our seven legends of heavyweight boxing during The Golden Age of Boxing from 1964 – 1995…. as this video features the future legendary heavyweight champion when he was young and fighting as a cruiser weight boxer for the crown of Dwight Mohammad Qawi.
By the time light heavyweight and cruiser weight champion Dwight Braxton stepped into the ring against a young 20 year old Holyfield….he was 33 years old….after growing up in an extremely violent home environment and spending five years in Rahway State Prison….where he found boxing and turned his life around….and moved on to win two world championships….as he entered the ring for this fight against Holyfield….which is really quite an impressive story.
This was an incredible fight in which Holyfield won decisively…..but Qawi was an fabulous champion who was still throwing leather with a huge flurry with 20 seconds left in the fight…..but Holyfield had beat him down by then…..as he showed boxing fans why he was destined to be a legend of The Golden Age of Boxing.
