Boxing – 1987 – 10 Rnd Jr Welterwt Bout With Frankie Warren Vs Gene Hatcher PreFight Show Special

DOG ASIDE:

As a huge fan of the art of pugilism….this lil ole chiweenie Sportsphile has become a big fan of the PreFight Shows that precede the networks airing of the actual fight….for these buildups to each fight always give insight and typically wonderful highlights of each fighter prior to entering the ring for the fight to be aired live thereafter.

The NBC boxing broadcast team of Marv Albert and Dr. Ferdie Pacheco…..who compare in talent and boxing knowledge with ABC’s Howard Cosell or Chris Schenkel….or CBS’s Tim Ryan and Gil Clancy….or HBO’s Barry Tompkins, Sugar Ray Leonard and Larry Merchant…..as they always brought something special to each prefight show…..as evidenced by this video clip in advance of the 10 round junior welterweight bout between Frankie Warren verses Gene Hatcher…..for both of these fighters were two of the really good boxers who have been so easily forgotten for their talents in the ring during The Golden Age of Boxing ….from 1964 to 1999….which was a period that had a extremely large number of really great to legendary fighters in dang near every weight division.

Lil Frankie Warren was one of the best short guys to ever enter the ring….in the likes of guys like Dwight Muhammd Qawi and Sweet Pea Pernell Whitaker…..and Mad Dog Gene Hatcher was a world champion who happened to fight during the same time as Roberto Duran, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Wilfred Benetiz, Hector Camacho et al…..so, really good fighters like the two featured in this video herewith….just kind of got lost in the spotlight of so many legendary fighters in and around their weight class.
