Boxing – 1987 – 10 Round Lightweight Bout – Rocky Lockridge VS Dennis Cruz

DOG ASIDE:

Rick “Rocky” Lockridge is an American former professional boxer….who is known for handing Roger Mayweather his first defeat in a first-round knockout in just 98 seconds…. which earned him the WBA and lineal super featherweight titles…..as he later won the IBF super featherweight title….while ending his career with 44 wins and 9 losses…for Rocky was a really good fighter whose career was affected significantly by his use of drugs….but stil, he deserves his place in boxing history….as he was like so many other really good boxers who, sadly for them, fought during the golden age of boxing (1964 – 1995)…a time when there was a plethera of super great to legendary boxers.

In this NBC televised fight, Lockridge faces Dennis Cruz….a respectable boxer out of Corpus Christi, TX….who entered this fight with a 23 – 2 record. The broadcasters for this fight was the long time NBC boxing team of Marv Albert….who is still a very significant sports broadcaster some 30 years later….with his sidekick “The Fight Doctor” Dr. Ferdie Pacheco….who was in Muhammad Ali’s corner for many years before becoming a broadcaster.

This was a good fight that had a dramatic ending that is well worth seeing as Rocky Lockridge scores a 7th round KO.
