This WBA Bantamweight Title Fight between Frankie Duarte (USA) vs. Benardo Pinango (Venezuela) took place on Febuary 3, 1987 at the Forum in Inglewood, CA….as this title fight was between one really good and one great bantamweight boxer during the Golden Age of Boxing (1964 – 1999)….as Venezuelan legend Bernado Pinango….although having only 32 fights….held the WBA World Bantamweight and WBA World Super Bantamweight titles…..after posting a career record of 23 – 5 – 3….as Pinango originally won the bantamweight title from Gaby Canizales in May of 1986… whereas Franke Duarte never held the crown in his successful 46 – 8 – 1 career….in which he fought for the WBA World Bantamweight Title (as seen in this video herewith)….and the WBC World Super Bantamweight Title (against Daniel Zaragoza)….but, Duarte did hold the NABF Bantamweight Title several different times.
This world championship title fight turns out to be a really great fight that goes the distance….which we feel Duarte won, so, this is one video that we disagree with the decision….and we treasure it as we do the other 619 vintage world championship title fights from the Golden Age of Boxing….cuz it is a lil “nugget of gold” in our boxing library….that is well worth watching by any boxing fan….for we at ImaSportsphile have learned that the lil guys….just like this lil ole chiweenie Sportsphile…. have a whole bunch of fight in them.
