This 6 round light heavyweight boxing match between Evander Holyfield vs Lionel Byarm…..was Holyfield’s 1st professional fight….a fight that took place at Madison Square Garden in New York City billed as “A Night of Gold”…..featuring 5 gold medal winning boxers from the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics including Mark Breland, Pernell Whitaker, Meldrick Taylor, Tyrell Biggs and Holyfield.
This actually was a very good action fight…..as The Real Deal’s opponent, Lionel Byarm was a pretty darn good fighter….who entered the ring with a 9 – 1 record….as he presented a good 1st test for the future world champion…..which boxing commentator Chris Schenkel points out early in the fight that he felt Holyfield would win both the light heavyweight and heavyweight crowns.
