Boxing – Middleweight Title Fight – HBO In Studio Review – Hagler VS Hearns

DOG COMMENTARY:

Barry Tompkins and Sugar Ray Leonard of HBO Boxing host this awesome in-studio review with Marvin Hagler and Thomas Hearns of the historic battle in the ring on April 15, 1985….when one “legendary boxer”  Marvelous Marvin Hagler (60 – 2 – 2, 50 KO’s) and one “super great boxer” Thomas “Hitman” Hearns (40 – 1, 34 KO’s) during the golden age of boxing (1964 – 1995) met between the 4-corners at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas…..and Bone Daddy was there….just 6 rows back at ringside during the fight….close enough to actually hear the sounds of each tremendous punch as they strung the other fight….and to hear the sounds that come out of each fighter in response to each thunderous blow that landed in the best 8 minutes of boxing maybe ever seen became reality.

I have said this before and will say it again…..any time you have a legend and a super great fighter face off in the ring…..you do not want to miss this fight…..and even after you see one like this one turned out to be…..you want to see it again and again.

I love to hear Bone Daddy tell the stories surrounding his trip to Las Vegas to see this fight with his sports events traveling partner….the Prince of Pleasure….for as with many adventures experienced by these two time travelers…..the events that surrounded the event (the fight) were just as unbelievable as the 8+/- minutes it took to fight this exceptional fight…..for as Bone Daddy puts it….although the fight lasted just a little over 2 1/2 rounds…..it seemed like it took a lifetime and every ounce of punching power that each brilliant boxer had to deliver…..was put into those 8+/- minutes in such a way that it created a verbal buzz like none other that Bone Daddy had ever experienced….for there was not one person who saw this fight live that was not infused with energy like one of Zeus’s lightning bolts had struck them directly….an energy that just riveted and rebounded throughout the body of every onlooker.

When the boys from Texas landed in Las Vegas….they did not have even one ticket to the fight….but just knew that they would find the right scalper to get them into the fight….and little did they know that by the time the fight arrived….they would be sitting at ringside….a blessing provided by an unfortunate losing Texas Hold-Um hand of 4 kings to Prince of Pleasure’s jack high straight flush…..as the fateful loser had to put up his two ringside tickets to cover his call of a bet that he didn’t have enough money (cash) for…..and Prince agreed to value the two tickets as the value of his final bet to be called.

In this fight, both of these incredible fighters threw one punch every 1 1/2 seconds of the entire 8 minute fight that will last forever in the hearts and minds each and every boxing fan that got to see this one live.
