ESPN produced a series of great boxing events that were known as SuperBouts…..and this one seen herewith was a replay and analysis of the November 30,1979 WBC welterweight title fight between then Champ Wilfred Benitez vs # 1 ranked Sugar Ray Leonard….which was hosted by Al Bernstein and Sam Rosen…..who give expert analysis of the key rounds in this awesome battle in the ring between two legendary boxers of the golden age of boxing (1964 – 1995).
The SuperBouts series really broke down the fights that they chose to replay and analyze…..providing insights into the ebb and flow of this fantastic fight….as this war marked the start of Leonard’s legendary run of winning 16 world titles in 5 different weight divisions throughout his career….for Sugar took the welterweight belt from the man who was the youngest world champion in boxing history….who lost his 2nd weight division title before he went on to win his 3rd division title (light middleweight) just one year later against Maurice Hope.
This fight and the analysis is outstanding…..providing great insight into the styles and minds of each of these super great and legendary boxers.
