Boxing – WBA Welterweight Title – Champ Thomas Hearns VS Randy Shields

DOG COMMENTARY:

Thomas “Hitman” Hearns was 30 – 0 with 27 KO’s when he entered the ring on April 25, 1981….to defend his WBA world welterweight title for the 2nd time against Randy Shields….an accomplished club fighter who had a career of 41 wins 9 losses 1 draw….having fought for a world title on 2 different occasions….against Pepino Cuevas and Thomas Hearns….as seen in this fight herewith.

Shields was a very good boxer…..but he had the undaunting task of having a career in boxing during the golden age of the sport (1964 – 1995)….for during this incredible time in boxing history…..there were super greats and legends fighting in every corner…..so, really good boxers like Randy Shields, Earnie Shavers, Bobby Czyz, Bunny Johnson, Mike McCallum and so many more…..are getting lost in the pages of the history books on boxing.

Randy Shields gave Thomas Hearns a great fight…..just like Earnie Shavers did when in the ring with Muhammad Ali…..a fight that is well worth watching.

Thomas Hearns on the other hand…..was about to write boxing history in the rarest of air…..a quest that would endure the next 25 years.
