Comedy – 1986 – NBCs Bob Costas Visits Ex Red Sox P Sam Malone At CHEERS Bar Prior To World Series

DOG ASIDE:

This is one of those really special videos clips here at ImaSportsphile…..in which NBC’s Bob Costas is in Boston for the 1986 World Series between the Red Sox Vs N Y Mets….so, he of course has to visit a local tavern owner, Ex-Red Sox P Sam Malone at his famous CHEERS Bar, located close to Fenway Park….and although this is an NBC’s Major League Baseball produced telecast….we put it in our comedy section….cuz it is quite funny.

Cheers, of course, was an American television comedy sitcom that ran on NBC from September 30, 1982, to May 20, 1993, with a total of 275 half-hour episodes for eleven seasons….as the show was set in a bar named Cheers in Boston, Massachusetts….where a group of locals met to drink, relax, and socialize….as the owner of the bar was an ex-Red Sox pitcher named Sam Malone….as much of the content had Red Sox overtones. The show’s main theme song, co-written and performed by Gary Portnoy, lent its refrain “Where Everybody Knows Your Name” as the show’s catchphrase.

Any way you cut the pie….this video is a rare gem in our ImaSportsphile treasure chest of memories….cuz there is lots of history attached to Cheers and its cast…..and Bob Costas and baseball.
