Cycling – 1986 – Tour De France – Phil Liggett Interview With Greg LeMond After 1st Stage

The prologue was won by France’s Thierry Marie…..with teammate Bernard Hinault in second place…..just two seconds slower…..but Marie lost the lead in the first stage to Canadian Alex Stieda…..which was  thanks to bonus time that Stieda won in intermediate sprints.  Stage 1 was run on July 5th….which was a 85 km / 52.8 mile plain stage course from Nanterre to Sceaux…..when Stage 1 was won by Belgium’s Pol Verschuere.

After the 1st Stage was completed…..CBS race analyst Phil Liggett conducted the interview herewith….with USA cyclist Greg LeMond…..who had sacrificed winning the race in 1985….when he backed off the pace to allow his teammate FRA Bernard Hinault to win his 5th Tour de France……and had promised to support LeMond in any way possible to help him win this 1986 Tour…..which was the scope of Liggett’s interview.
