Stage 20 of the 1986 Tour de France was run on July 24 over a 58 km / 36 mile course around the city of Saint-Etienne….which was an individual time trial…..as FRA Bernard Hinault still had a small chance of beating his teammate USA Greg LeMond…..and one of those chances was in the individual time trial in Stage 20…..when halfway through his race, LeMond fell, and had to change bikes after the fall….and thus losing time in that way…..as Hinault won the stage while beating LeMond by 25 seconds.
During the coverage of Stage 3…..CBS sportscasters John Tesh and Phil Liggett interview the two leaders of the Tour….being USA Greg LeMond and FRA Bernard Hinault…..along with a look inside the mobile home of Lemond’s support team…..with an interview with his wife Mary…..and his mother Bertha at the very moment they heard that LeMond had a crash.
