On July 6, 1986, something happened at the Tour de France on the 214 km / 133 mile course from Levallois-Perret to Lievin…..when a member of the 1st American cycling team to ever compete in a Tour de France….when  name Team 7-Eleven’s Davis Phinney won Stage 3 of the 1986 Tour…..as no American had ever graced the podium at the Tour de France until this day…..and we have it all covered as seen in this video herewith…..when another piece of sports history is documented in our vintage video library here at ImaSportsphile.

CBS Sports John Tesh and Phil Liggett provide great coverage of this historic event…..as they provide highlights of the 1st three days of coverage of the 1986 Tour….to include the prologue individual time trial……which was won by FRA Thiery Marie….followed by France’s Charly Mottet, Laurent Fignon and Bernard Hinault plus USA Greg LeMond……while Stage 1 was won by Pol Verschuere of Belguim…..and team Sesteme U won the team time trial with precision riding for leader Laurent Fignon.  The 1st three days were capped off wih USA Davis Phinney winning Stage 3 in historic fashion.
