Cycling – 1986 – Tour De France Stage 5 – NED Johan Van Der Velde Grabs Stage 5 Win & Yellow Jersey

Stage 5 of the 1986 Tour de France took place on July 8th….which covered the 124.5 km / 77.4 mile course from Evreux to Villers-sur-Mer, France…..and was a “plain stage” won by NED Johan van der Velde….who is a former Dutch cyclist…..when in the 1980 Tour de France, he won the young rider classification….while also placing 12th in the general classification that year….after he had been a racing cyclist for only a year.  In the 1981 Tour de France, he took first place on the 2nd and 21st stages….and again finishing 12th overall for the second year.  He rode with TI–Raleigh in the Tour de France from 1979 to 1983….and with the Panasonic team….where he won Stage 5 as seen in this video herewith….and wore the Yellow Jersey for two days in the 1986 Tour de France.
