This video starts off with visuals of the casualties of the 1987 Tour de France and the race was headed for the Pyrenees Mountains…..and although there is no narrative to the first part of the video….the pictures of the fallen riders provides evidence to just how dangerous the great race can be.
The tenth stage was an individual time trial, and the first real test for the favorites…..which was won by IRE Stephen Roche…..with FRA Charly Mottet in second place….as he became the new leader of the general classification…..when after a successful escape in the eleventh stage, FRA Martial Gayant became the new leader. The twelfth stage ended in a bunch sprint that did not change the general classification. The Tour arrived in the Pyrenees in the thirteenth stage….when non-climbers such as Gayant lost more than fifteen minutes…..thus removing the non-climbers from the top positions of the general classification….with the new top three being FRA Charly Mottet, FRA Jean Franscois Bernard and IRE Stephen Roche….who were all serious contenders for the final victory.
