Figure Skating – 1986 – World Championships – Men Free Skate Finals – USSR Alexander Fadeev

Alexandre “Sasha” Fadeev is a Russian former competitive figure skater….who represented the Soviet Union…..while becoming the 1985 World champion….and a four-time European champion.  Fadeev won the 1985 World Championships by placing first in all three segments of the competition….including compulsory figures and the short and long programs….as he took the gold medal ahead of CAN Brian Orser (silver) and USA Brian Boitano (bronze).

At the 1986 World Championships, Fadeev entered the long program (as seen in this video herewith) with a comfortable lead and needed only a third place in the long program to defend his title…..but five major mistakes placed him fifth in the segment and third overall….when he took the bronze medal behind USA Brian Boitano (gold) and CAN Brian Orser (silver).
