The 1986 World Figure Skating Championships were held in Geneva, Switzerland from March 18th to March 23rd…..as an event sanctioned by the International Skating Union…..with medals were awarded in men’s singles, ladies’ singles, pair skating, and ice dancing. The ISU Representative was Czech Josef Dědič and the ISU Technical Delegate was Elemér Terták of Hungary. Soviet judge Natalia Danilenko was suspended for ignoring a new rule requiring mandatory deductions of 0.1 for falls….when she gave USSR skater Alexandr Fadeev a score of 5.9 after he fell twice….instead of a maximum of 5.8.
This performance as seen in this video herewith, provides USA’s Brian Boitano to beat Canadian Brian Orser for the gold medal…..while USSR Alexandr Fadeev took bronze……in an event covered on CBS Sports Saturday / Sports Sunday with host broadcasters John Tesh and Scott Hamilton.
