Figure Skating – 1988 – World Championships – Ladies Solo Free Skate Final – GDR Katarina Witt

The 1988 World Figure Skating Championships were held in Budapest, Hungary in March…..as medals were awarded in men’s singles, ladies’ singles (as seen in this video herewith), pair skating, and ice dancing.

Katarina Witt (born December 3, 1965) is a retired German figure skater….who won two Olympic gold medals for East Germany….first at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics….and the second at the 1988 Calgary Olympics. She is a four-time World Champion (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988) and two-time World silver medalist (1982, 1986)….which is a feat only equaled by Sonja Henie among female skaters….plus Witt won six consecutive European Championships (1983–1988).  Between 1984 and 1988 Witt won ten golds from eleven major international events….including two Olympics….four out of five World championships….and five European championships. Her competitive record makes her one of the most successful figure skaters of all time.

As Bone Daddy, the original Sportsphile, put it as a brand new 40 year old father of his 1st child, who had just recently come off a long road of bachelorhood, “Katarina Witt was a world class athlete with a stunning presence that combined elegance, coquettish cuteness and steamy sex to every one of her performances.”
