The inaugural Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament was held in 1978 at Onion Creek Country Club in Austin, Texas….which was a highly anticipated event for not just Austin…..but all of Central Texas…..for within a 100 mile radius of the Capitol of Texas are some 35 golf courses….which equates to lots of golf fans….and when you add to that the fact that Central Texas had already given the golf world such golfing greats as Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Jack Burke Jr., Babe Didrikson Zaharias, Jimmy Demaret, Don January, Charles Coody, Don and son Rick Massengale, Kathy Whitworth, Lee Elder, Homero Blancas, Ben Crenshaw, Tom Kite and Lee Trevino….then it is easy to see why the Legends tournament was so popular with the local folks in Central Texas…..and then when you add the nuances of music and cuisine that Austin had to offer in the late 1970’s…..that is why you can understand why we at ImaSportsphile consider this video seen herewith to be such a gem in our treasure chest of vintage memories.
