This video features longtime CBS and ABC broadcaster Jack Whitaker….who entered network sports in 1961 at CBS….where he did play-by-play for the Philadelphia Eagles of the NFL….and hosted the anthology series CBS Sports Spectacular among other duties….as he worked for CBS for more than two decades. Whitaker is probably best remembered for his coverage of golf (as seen in this video herewith)…. and horse racing, where he covered thoroughbred racing’s Triple Crown events. He has covered all four of golf’s major championships….the very first Super Bowl….many championship boxing title fights….the National Professional Soccer League in 1967….the North American Soccer League a year later….and Major League Baseball. Whitaker was a studio host for The NFL Today at CBS….which is the network’s pre-game show.
Jack Whitaker provides a wonderful overview of the 1985 US National Amateur Golf Championship from Montclair Golf Club….which featured such players as Jay Sigel, Sam Randolph, Jack Kay, Scott Verplank, Chip Drury and Peter Persons…..wherein Sam Randolph would defeat Peter Persons by 1 up to win the 1985 National Amateur title.
