Peter Jacobsen is an American professional golfer and commentator on Golf Channel and NBC…..who has played on the PGA Tour and the Champions Tour (prior Seniors Tour)…..while winning seven tournaments on the PGA Tour….and two events on the Champions Tour which were both majors (Seniors US Open and Seniors Players Championship). Jacobsen qualified for the PGA Tour in his first attempt….while finishing in 19th place at the 1976 qualifying tournament. He made steady progress during his first few seasons on the tour before capturing his first title in 1980 at the Buick-Goodwrench Open. He won twice on the tour in 1984 and broke into the top-10 on the money list for the first time. Two more wins in 1995 catapulted him to a career best 7th place on the end of season money list. As a result of his performance during those two seasons, he was selected to play in two Ryder Cups, in 1985 and 1995.
Vin Scully is an American retired sportscaster…..who is best known for his 67 seasons calling games for Major League Baseball’s Dodgers….after beginning in 1950….when the franchise was located in Brooklyn….and ending in 2016….as his run constitutes the longest tenure of any broadcaster with a single team in professional sports history….while being 2nd only to Tommy Lasorda (by two years) in terms of number of years associated with the Dodgers organization in any capacity. He retired at age 88 in 2016….thus ending his record-breaking run as their play-by-play announcer.
In addition to calling Dodgers baseball, Scully called various national baseball, football and golf contests for CBS Sports from 1975 to 1982….and was NBC Sports’ lead baseball play-by-play announcer from 1983 to 1989…..plus, he was the host of NBC’s Skins Game golf broadcasts during the same time period.
