Kurt Thomas is an American Olympic gymnast…..who became a member of the US Olympic team at the 1976 Summer Olympics…..then at the 1978 World Championships, Thomas became the first American male gymnast to win a gold medal in floor exercise….and in 1979, he became the first gymnast to receive the James E. Sullivan Award for the best amateur athlete in the US.
Kurt Thomas earned six medals at the World Championships….including gold on the horizontal bar and floor exercise….and silver in the all-around, parallel bars, and pommel horse. Coming off an impressive 1979 World Championship where he won 6 medals….. he was a favorite to win a gold medal at the 1980 Moscow Olympics Games….however, the games were boycotted by the United States government…..and Thomas, like 437 other American athletes, were all robbed of their dreams of competing for a medal in the Olympic Games by US President Jimmy Carter…..who chose to let politics interfere with sports…..which is a area the ANY AND ALL politics should never go….for it is our opinion here at ImaSportsphile that The Worst Tics are poli-TICS”.
