The Chinese men’s gymnastics team showed up on the medal stands in Los Angeles for the 1984 Olympic Games by taking 2nd in the team all-around medal with a team consisting of Li Ning, Tong Fei and Li Xaoping, Lou Yun, Li Yuejiu and Xu Zhiqiang….and by the time 1985 rolled around, the Chinese men’s gymnastics team was already developing young gymnasts like age 16 Yang Yusehan….seen in this video herewith….who would lead the Chinese to world prominence in the sport….evidenced by the team’s 2nd place finish in 1992 and 1996 Olympics…..and their first place finish in 2000….which was also followed by 1st place finishes in 2008 and 2002.
Yang Yueshan was an integral part of the 1992 and 1996 teams….as he was just coming into his own here at the 1985 American Cup as an 16 year old….when his performance was good enough to take a close 2nd place in the high bar….just behind USA Tim Daggett.
