Living in a place where ice has the life expectancy of a turkey in the middle of a West Texas turkey shoot…simply put, it just doesn’t last long…..so, a sport that is played on ice….was only read about in the newspaper….sometimes….and sometimes seen on TV…..but not much.  Even if you were a budding Sportsphile like Bone Daddy….there just wasn’t any live hockey games to be seen anywhere within driving distance of Midland, Texas. In 1976, Bone Daddy got to go to a live WHA Houston Aeros vs Quebec Nordiques Division Championship game in Houston, Texas.  The first thing BD did when he go to the game was to buy a Houston Aeros Hockey stick…..and ended up coming home to Austin with that stick being autograph by the Aeros team….including Gordie Howe and his two sons, Mark and Marty….who led the Aeros to the Avco Cups that season.
