This 1986 Breeders’ Cup was the 3rd edition of the cup….and was held for the first time under the majestic San Gabriel Mountains at Santa Anita Park. A record Breeders’ Cup crowd of 69,155 were on hand to witness the 4-year-old Lady’s Secret go wire to wire to win the Distaff and become the first Breeders’ Cup champion to be named Horse of the Year….while Skywalker, ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Laffit Pincay, Jr., led the Breeders’ Cup Classic from start to finish.  A record total of $34,884,790 was wagered across North America on the entire race day program.

The seven races of the day were won as follows…..

Classic was won by Skywalker with Lafitt Pincay and trained by Michael Whittingham of Oak Cliff Stable

Juvenile was won by Capote with Lafitt Pincay and trained by D Wayne Lucas for B A Beal, L R French and Eugene Klein

The Breeders Cup is a day of horse racing that equals in excitement and enjoyability with The Kentucky Derby, The Preakness Stakes and The Belmont Stakes each year….and for this lil ole chiweenie Sportsphile….provides a much more enjoyable day of horse racing because there are so many different races featuring the best horses in the world each year.
