This video features ABC’s Wide World of Sports reporters Jack Whitaker and Charlsie Cantey in the jockey’s dressing room and the stables at Pimlico Racetrack for the 112th running of the Preakness Stakes.  

Charlsie Cantey (born 1946) is one of broadcasting’s veteran thoroughbred horse racing analysts….who as an American sportscaster, worked for ESPN (1985–2002), ABC Sports (1986–2000), WOR-TV (1975–1977), CBS Sports (1977–1986), USA Network (2002–2005) and NBC Sports (2000–2005). 

Cantey joined ABC Sports in April 1986. In addition to her coverage of the Triple Crown….she served as an expert analyst and reporter for ABC’s Wide World of Sports live coverage of major Kentucky Derby prep races from 1986 through 2001. 

John Francis “Jack” Whitaker (born May 18, 1924) is an American sportscaster….who worked for both CBS and ABC. He also is a decorated veteran of World War II….where he fought in the Normandy Campaign….and was wounded by an artillery strike. After moving from CBS to ABC in 1982….Whitaker served as a reporter for both news and sports divisions. He was a part of ABC’s sports team at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games and the 1984 Winter and Summer Olympic Games. He has also reported sports for ABC’s World News Tonight, Nightline and 20/20. He left ABC around 2004, and retired from broadcasting soon after.
