Bone Daddy has always said….”There is no lore in sport greater than Yankee lore….for it covers the globe…..with fans of all race and color….who live and die Yankee pinstripes every year”….so while writing about the New York Yankees is really easy and fun for me to do….cuz BD had a 38 year run of being a serious Yankee fan…evidenced by his 750 pieces of Yankee collectibles he has in the ImaSportsphile Collection & Memorabilia section of our site.
MLB – 1949 – Film – The Story Of The 1949 World Series With New York Yankees Winning Championship
Bone Daddy has an original baseball card of a majority of Yankee players from every season and every team beginning with the 1949 Yanks….and carrying forward year by year to the 1987 Yanks…..cuz all you have to do is to look at these Yankee cards to know that his collection is outstanding….as these 6 are a special Topps series depicting the 1961 World Series between the Yanks verse the Reds.

MLB – 1961 – Topps Baseball Cards With Highlights Of 1961 World Series Between The Cincinati Reds Vs New York Yankees These are followed by just a few of the autographs of over 100 Yankee players throughout the years….with some truly outstanding Yankee greats like 2B Willie Randolph….who spent 13 of his 18 seasons as a player with the Yankees and was co-captain of the Yankees with Ron Guidry from 1986 to 1988…..plus 1B Chris Chambliss….who was traded along with Dick Tidrow and Cecil Upshaw from the Indians to the New York Yankees for Fritz Peterson, Steve Kline, Fred Beene and Tom Buskey on April 26, 1974, and went on to be the Yanks starting 1B until 1980….then there’s Sweet Lou Pinella, who captured two World Series while playing for the Yanks from 1974 to 1984, and then was Manager of the Yanks from 1986 to 1988….after which comes the 1961 Bowman card of Yankee OF Roger Maris….who broke Babe Ruth’s single season home run record by hitting 61 in 1961….followed by an autograph of Yanks Hall of Fame P Goose Gossage, who is respected for his impact in crucial games as a closer for recording the final out to clinch a division, league or World Series title seven times…..while his eight All-Star selections as a reliever were a record until Mariano Rivera passed him in 2008…..as he is followed by SS Tony Kubek’s autograph card…. wherein during his nine-year playing career with the New York Yankees, Kubek played in six World Series in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s….while starting in 37 World Series games….and last but not least comes Yanks OF / DH Don Baylor, who was born in Austin, Texas….while growing up in Clarksville, a neighborhood where our Bone Daddy lived in the early 1970’s…..which makes Baylor a Home Boy around these parts….as Baylor was offered a scholarship to play college football for the Texas Longhorns of the University of Texas, which would have made him the first African American to play football at Texas….but he opted to pursue a baseball career, enrolling at Blinn Junior College in Brenham, Texas….. which was obviously the right choice for him….as he would go on to have an 18 year MLB career.

Combined within the information on these cards alone….literally lies the history of the New York Yankees for almost 4 full decades….for it was truly the Golden Age of Baseball…..a time ruled by “the Boys from the Bronx”.….for there is not an American man from the Baby Boomer Generation….along with many many women….who grew up loving and playing baseball in America during the post war years….when baseball was America’s National Pastime…who while looking at this incredible array of Yankee baseball cards won’t bring back wonderful memories when they were kids…..while playing catch with their Dads….or crackin’ peanuts at a game…. while listening to him teach you about intricacies and nuances of baseball.

The truth be known….I have no section in this museum that provides a better “walk down memory lane” than when you visit our Yankee category in the Baseball Section of our library…..cuz whether you love them or you hate them…..there is no cornerstone of sports more solid and historic than the New York Yankees….plus, my stories are a great read. Anyway, here are just a few of the great Yankee baseball cards and Yankee paraphernalia that Bone Daddy collected over those 38 years of being a “diehard NY Yankees fan”.
