Game 3 of the 1969 MLB World Series between the Baltimore Orioles verses the New York Mets was played at 1 pm on Tuesday, October 14 at Shea Stadium, the Queens NYC.
OF Tommy Agee led off the game for the Mets with a home run off of Jim Palmer….then saved at least five runs with his defense….when with two out in the 4th….with Oriole runners on first and third….Mets CF Agee raced to the 396-foot sign in left-center and made a backhanded running catch of a drive hit by Elrod Hendricks….then in the 7th…..the Orioles had the bases loaded with two out….when Agee made a headfirst diving grab of a line drive hit by Paul Blair in right-center.
Mets Ed Kranepool added a home run….and Jerry Grote an RBI double for the Mets….while P Gary Gentry pitched 62⁄3 shutout innings….and helped his own cause with a 2nd inning two-run double…..while P Nolan Ryan making his only World Series appearance of his 27-year career….pitched the final 21⁄3 innings (benefiting from Agee’s second catch) and earned a save.
