MLB – 1980 All Star Game – Dodger Stadium – Howard Cosel & Jim Palmer & Al Michaels – Part 2

DOG ASIDE:

In this 1980 MLB All Star Game from Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles….the AL and NL were locked in a scoreless duel for four innings….including P Steve Stone’s perfect performance for 3 complete innings….as Fred Lynn would break the deadlock in the top of the fifth with a two-run homer off Bob Welch.  The National League came back with a single run in their half of the fifth when Ken Griffey homered off Tommy John. The NL took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when George Hendrick singled home Ray Knight….and Phil Garner scored on a Willie Randolph error.  The NL’s final run scored in the seventh when Dave Concepcion reached on a fielder’s choice….then went to second on a wild-pitch by Dave Stieb….and advancing to third on a passed ball by Darrell Porter….while coming home on another Stieb wild pitch.

However, what makes this video worth watching is that there are 16 future Hall of Fame players on the two squads…. including C Carlton Fisk, OF Rod Carew, OF Reggie Jackson, P Goose Gossage, OF Paul Molitor, 3B George Brett, SS Robin Yount, OF Rickie Henderson, OF Jim Rice, OF Dave Winfield, OF Ken Griffey Jr., 3B Mike Schmidt, C Gary Carter, P Bruce Sutter, P Steve Carlton and C Johnny Benck….and any time you can get to see that many HOF members on one field….it is history in the viewing.
