MLB – 1980 – Special – Boys In The Field – Hostess Audrey Kates Interviews Orioles Mgr Frank Robinson

One of the best tv baseball specials ever produced was the 1980 airing of Boys In The Field …. which featured Hostess Audrey Kates…..as she took the viewing public and baseball fans everywhere on a wonderful walk down memory through the history of the Negro Professional Baseball League….to the challenges of being some of the 1st black player to break the color barrier in Major League Baseball….and one of her stops included an interview with one of those originals, Frank Robinson…..who entered the league with the Cincinnati Reds in 1953…. some 6 years after Jackie Robinson was the 1st.

Frank Robinson would go on to have a Hall of Fame career…..while becoming the only player in MLB history to earn MVP awards in both leagues…..as he became one of three players in history to have his number retired by three different teams….Reds, Indians and Orioles.
