We at ImaSportsphile cherish each and ever piece of Pete Rose video that we have in our Baseball Section herewith….for here was a player who could walk out his front door….and the controversy would begin….and like the “dust storm around Pigpen”….the storms of controversy were all around his….his aggressive style of play, his fierce competitiveness, his gambling, his decision making, et al….it didn’t matter when it came to his play on the diamond….there was never any controversy about his greatness ….as Charlie Hustle deserves his place in the conversation of the best to ever play the game. Just look at these current mlb records stats….4,256 career hits….3,215 career singles…..3,562 career games played ….14,053 career at-bats….15,890 career plate appearances….which all grade high when considering best all time hitter….and when you throw in these other career MLB accomplishments like….17× All-Star Game (1965 – 1967 +1971 +1973 – 1982,+1985)….3× World Series Champion (1975, 1976, 1980)….NL MVP (1973)….World Series MVP(1975)….NL Rookie of the Year (1963…. 2 × Gold Glove Award (1969,1970)….Silver Slugger Award(1981)….Roberto Clemente Award (1976)….3× NL batting champion (1968, 1969, 1973)….you’ve got to agree that each video of his is another “nugget of gold” in our vintage video museum of memories.
This CNN Sports report with Bob Kurtz and Nick Charles at the sports desk play an audio report from Craig Sager (NBA sideline broadcast fame) at the mike in Philadelphia on the night that Pete Rose surpassed Cardinals 1B Stan Musial as the all time NL hits leader with 3631….what a moment in history…. and we’ve got Sager making the call on Phillies radio. Great stuff!!!
