DOG COMMENTARY:

The 1985 Major League Baseball All-Star Game was the 56th playing of the game….which is played annually between the All-Stars of the National League and the All-Stars of the American League….as this game was played on July 16, 1985, in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minnesota…..home of the Minnesota Twins.

The National League won the game 6–1….with the winning pitcher being LaMarr Hoyt of the San Diego Padres…. and the losing pitcher being Jack Morris of the Detroit Tigers….as Hoyt also won the game’s MVP award. The National League was managed by the Padres’ Dick Williams….while the American League was managed by Sparky Anderson of the Tigers….while Williams was backed by coaches Jim Frey and Bob Lillis….and Anderson was aided by coaches Bobby Cox and Dick Howser.

The teams’ honorary captains each starred in the 1965 All-Star game….which was also held in Minnesota….with Twins 3B Harmon Killebrew for the AL….and Dodgers P Sandy Koufax for the NL….for in the game two decades ago….Koufax earned the NL win….while Killebrew hit the AL’s second home run. Attendance was announced as 54,960.

There were 16 future Hall of Fame Members playing in this game….3B Wade Boggs, OF Paul Molitor, OF Tim Raines, 2B Ryne Sandberg, P Bert Blyleven, P Nolan Ryan, P Goose Gossage, C Carlton Fisk, OF Jim Rice, OF Dave Winfield, SS Cal Ripken Jr., 1B Eddie Murray, 3B George Brett, OF Rickie Henderson, SS Ossie Smith and OF Tony Gwynn….and for that reason alone….any true Sportsphile should watch this video.
