DOG ASIDE:

During the mid-1980’s, NBC and Pizza Hut teamed up to produce and promote a pre-spring training softball all star game between National League vs American League stars…..which brought together some of MLB’s best players in 1985….to play a “let’s have fun” slow pitch softball game for the Boys and Girls Clubs of America as a charity event.

This game was hosted by NBC’s Bob Costas….and featured American League stars 2B Bobby Grich, OF Kirk Gibson, SS Cal Ripken Jr., OF Jim Rice, 1B Eddie Murray, OF Dave Kingman, 3B Wade Boggs, Rover Kent Hrbek, C Dave Engle and P Tom Seaver….with honorary Mgr. Brooks Robinson….while the National League squad featuring OF Andre Dawson, OF Tony Gwynn, 2B Rynne Sandberg, 1B Keith Hernandez, 3B Craig Nettles, OF Daryl Strawberry, Rover Gary Matthews, SS Hubie Brooks, C Jody Davis, P Rick Sutcliff and OF Keith Moreland…with the Nationals honorary Mgr.
