This video features ESPN’s Chris Berman and George Grande at the pregame show for the 1986 All Star Game at the Houston Astrodome….as they bring highlights of the 1986 MLB season leading up to the All Star break. What makes this video such a “nugget of gold” in our ImaSportsphile treasure chest of vintage memories….is that these incredible highlights are put to Bob Seger’s Like a Rock….which was certainly one of Seger’s most popular and remembered recordings.
Bob Seger was a roots rocker with a classic raspy, shouting voice….who wrote and recorded songs that dealt with love, women and blue-collar themes….and is an example of a heartland rock artist…..whose many hits include “Ramblin’ Gamblin’ Man” …. “Night Moves” …. “Turn the Page” …. “Still the Same” …. “We’ve Got Tonight” …. “Against the Wind” …. “You’ll Accomp’ny Me” …. “Shame on the Moon” …. “Like a Rock” (heard in this video)….and “Shakedown” ….which was written for Beverly Hills Cop II in 1987. Seger also co-wrote the Eagles’ # 1 hit “Heartache Tonight” ….along with his recording of “Old Time Rock and Roll” were named Songs of the Century in 2001.
Anyway you cut the pie….when MLB highlights and Bob Seger music are put together in perfect harmony…..you get just another ‘nugget of gold” from our ImaSportsphile treasure chest of vintage memories.
