This 1986 Major League Baseball Game of the Week between the Boston Red Sox and the California Angels featuired two of the most dominating pitchers in the 1986 MLB season…..as Clemens led the Boston club with 24 wins and 4 losses, a 2.48 earned run average with 238 strikeouts on his way to winning the American League MVP Award and the Cy Young Award….while the Angels Witt led his club with 18 wins and a 2.84 ERA….while on his way to a 3rd place position in the Cy Young voting behind Clemens and Teddy Higuera.
This was a classic pitchers duel between two really outstanding pitchers…..especially in 1986….as this game was tied at 1 – 1 at the end of the 4th inning….in a contest that featured two future Red Sox Hall of Fame members in 3B Wade Boggs and OF Jim Rice…..and Angels OF Reggie Jackson for the opposition.
When you think about baseball during 1986….could there possibly be a better pitcher to hitter match-up than Roger Clemens facing off against Mr. October, Reggie Jackson…..for that alone makes this must see TV for any baseball fan.
